STATEMENT
The material of ceramics for me is about transformation and growth. I start the process with piles of dust and after the simple introduction of water and fire, end with a functioning object of beauty and strength. I am drawn to this transformation that is so simple, yet so profound. I find parallels in the human story and I am inspired by similarities I can draw between the two. In the process of selling my work, I also pass along a part of that strength and beauty, as well as a part of me.
In my current ceramic practice I emphasize form and function in my pieces, with a flare of surface illustration that modulates between realism and design. While the slip cast forms I work with are at first glance similar, the hand painted surface of each piece is unique and allows for individual identities and personas to be born. The forms I create are very modern with simple, clean, lines that allow the functionality and surface decoration of the object to shine through.
In the end, I am a maker. I am able to create something that other people can use, while also being an object of beauty. It gives me a great sense of purpose and joy knowing a part of me lives on in the lives of others.
